Parent Volunteers

Dunbar Little League is a volunteer run organization that requires the participation of all families. We rely on parents for a variety of roles including coaches, team managers, field maintenance, coordinators, Board of Directors, special events, and more. Our families are what makes Dunbar the best community to play Little League baseball!

In addition to the registration fee, each family is required to provide a $175 volunteer deposit cheque for each child in Mini-Minors, Minors, and Majors (maximum 2 per family). Once the family has had a person (age 14 or over) complete 8 hours of volunteer service, the cheque will be destroyed. If the hours are not completed by the end of the regular season, the $175 cheque will be cashed by the League.

Volunteer cheques will be collected by your team Managers in April. Please make your volunteer deposit cheque payable to Dunbar Little League and post-dated to June 15, 2025. Please print the player’s first and last name on the front of the cheque.

Dunbar Little League uses the Sportshelper platform to make it easy for families to sign up for volunteer tasks and track volunteer hours.

You can access the DLL Volunteer Portal here: http://dll.sportshelpers.com

Volunteer hours DO NOT include parental responsibilities.

-Field prep and take down

-Bench parent / snack duties (T-ball & Mini-Minors)

-Scorekeeping (Mini-Minors, Minors, and Majors)

-Supervision and support at practices/games. Volunteer coaches cannot accept responsibility for your children. If a parent must leave the field, they must assign supervision of their child to a trusted friend or guardian – not the coaches.

Many thanks to those dedicated parents that volunteer way more than the 8 hours required to support their child and make a significant contribution to our community!

A sign-up sheet for volunteer roles will be posted here and sent out in January. More information for how to perform some duties are listed below.

Scorekeeping

Scoring baseball games is an important task as it allows officials to “play back” any game events to ensure accurate scores, batting orders, pitch counts, etc.

Scorekeeping starts in Mini Minors and although scorekeepers are not expected to include as much detail as in Minors or Majors, it’s a good time for parents to learn how to scorekeep correctly where accuracy is vital.

Please review the Scorekeeping 101 document and view this two part video (25 minutes total) that provides all the details on how to scorekeep properly. After two or three games, we guarantee that it will start to become second nature to you.
